Recognised for her unique husky vocal tone, Chen Yu Xuan - or more widely known as “Little Flower” - officially debuts as a singer-songwriter. Unlike most artistes that start their music career at a young age, Yu Xuan is a fresh face in the industry where her voice was first introduced to the audience this year, through the UFM100.3 Radio Singer Competition.
During the competition, Yu Xuan’s vocal performance received unanimous critical acclaim from both the judges and public, leading to her eventual victory. However, she chose not to reveal her face, much to the public’s disappointment. Shortly after the competition, Yu Xuan was signed to Haha Music & Entertainment, owned by her mentor - local singer-songwriter Lin Si Tong. Yu Xuan’s adventurous nature had previously led her to pursue different musical interests over the past few years, such as songwriting, electronic music production and DJ-ing. In October this year, Yu Xuan has devoted most of her time to the preparation of her debut single - “Matchsticks”. 《火柴 Matchsticks》单曲 SINGLE:When asked about her experience working with her mentor Lin Si Tong and label mate Yang Min, Yu Xuan highlighted the unexpectedly great chemistry, despite their wide differences in musical backgrounds and life experiences. She said that every member held themselves to high standards, driven by a common aspiration to break ground within the local songwriting scene. In the making of “Matchsticks”, Yu Xuan was actively involved throughout all stages of the creative process, from the songwriting to the production. With a penchant for lyric-writing, she aspires to pen down her perspectives more profoundly through her future works. After learning that she got into a car accident the night before her music video (MV) shoot, the crew had originally decided to postpone the shoot only to be faced by Yu Xuan’s insistence on following the schedule. As someone who rarely takes photographs of herself, Yu Xuan was evidently awkward in front of the camera, stirring up chuckles amongst the crew. However, it did not take her long to learn the ropes and she eventually portrayed a natural self in front of the camera. “Matchsticks” is now available on all major digital streaming platforms: https://bit.ly/chenyuxuan-matchsticks The MV will be released on 2 December 2020. |
